Project City Build Wiki

Hey Guys! So a while back, I made the Project City Build Wiki on Wikia because it was hard to find info on cities on the main forums, and I decided to make this post to spread the word![size=24pt]Project City Build Wikihttp://wiki.projectcitybuild.com
So hello! I created the PCB Wiki so it would be easier to find information on cities and towns rather than taking a while to browse the forums for one post! The address is aboeand you can contribute to it! Just make a Wikia account and make a page about your town so people can know more about it!

And staff, this is NOT an alternative to the forums, just in case you thought I made it as the new PCB
homepage.

Buildin,
YeshyYeshiam

EDIT: Octo and Kyle suggested that we use MediaWiki and actually own the wiki ourselves.

Just Checked it out! Pretty cool! Im not dumb or anything but I just find using/editing a wikia page is so confusing. But anyways, I guess we should leave the editing to those who are experienced with the website. Anyways, very good idea to get the word of someones town around

What’s the point of a wiki lol we have the forums

If I knew where some of these places were, I’d be glad to be a photographer. ;D

[sub]I don’t leave the bubble of Akihabara and Atlantis much…[/sub]

I think this is a great idea. It is very hard to scour the forums to find details about town info. Photos and other records would be a great way to catalog current and old cities. There have been multiple resets and cities that die off. It would be neat to be able to look up old cities and find pictures and info about them.

Issue is maintaining the wiki. Be nice if it stayed active. We should also add a link to the website if this becomes “official”.

Just sayin, don’t use wikia. Once you create something on wikia you can never remove it, and the owner of the wiki doesn’t actually own it. And then there’s the intrusive adverts, and the irritating unchangable theme. And also you can’t link to a site that’s not wikia or wikipedia, lest it get trapped in the spam filter.

I’d be willing to set up MediaWiki (what wikipedia uses) or DokuWiki (a simpler version, probably closer to wikia) on my webserver, and we’d be able to add themes and stuff. I could set up a temp domain (and if we ask andy very nicely he might forward wiki.projectcitybuild.com to it).

Yeahhh I’d defiantly go with Media Wiki over Wikia. Wikia is very very limited, and you don’t have access to cool features like cquote and Infobox, and those are just the beginning of what media wiki is capable of.

MediaWiki might be nice. I’m able to write quite easily in it and I could help run it as well.

I absolutely love this idea! It would be great to have a history/‘lore’ about Project City Build, the fictional empires and histories that exist in lots of towns/cities would be so cool to have preserved in a Wikipedia. Also if a map were to change down the line, cities that no longer exist would be cool to still be preserved on the Wiki. Also the history of some reoccurring towns over the maps etc.
I’d love to help/work on this.
I’ve also created articles/edited quite often on en.wikipedia.org

Putting mediawiki on now. If we’re having a wiki (which btw is an amazing idea), we might as well actually own it!

So MediaWiki it is! I’ve never used MediaWiki before but it would be nice to have an “official” web address like ‘wiki.projectcitybuild.com’.

Just set up the basics.

It’s still heavily WIP, and andy will have to sort out domains & stuff, but hey, it’s a start.

I’m transferring content from wikia now.

I’m also installing VisualEditor, so it’s easier for people to use it.
Actually, that will have to wait…

I’ve just made an account!

Are we allowed to start making pages for it yet, or do we have to wait until there’s an actual domain?

Start making pages!

SOP+ (only ruby so far) will be given Administrator rank, this gives them the power to fix stuff and edit protected pages.

Any page starting with ‘PCB:’ is a project page, anything in this namespace is protected and cannot be edited by normal users.

Please read the contribution guidelines before contributing

Nice!

Octo you da man!

Ok, so I improved the home page a bit to make it easier for people to find article.

Also, I added the Survival 1.7 town list:

If you guys want to write info on your old town, that would be cool!

I think this is a great idea. I’m more interested in writing past events.

I’d like to right a “History of Project City Build”, but I would need help for the early bits!

I also think we should let trusted+ players to have articles. Or at least staff. But that’s just my point of view!

Let’s try to have 100 articles by the end of the week, I’m sure we could do it!

I have been editing/removing templates with reference to things like population and GDP. The wiki reports from a realistic perspective.
