2016 GCSE Results Day

As many of us Brits know, tomorrow is the results day for our GCSE’s. I know that I am shitting myself and assume you guys are too so I just wanna wish everyone good luck and I’m sure you did well considering we are all nerds. I only know a few people who are getting their results so sorry if you are and I missed you out.

Good luck to:
Myself (obvs)
CallumWebb
Silverhawk(Zwinky)
Asmo (for computer science)

Good luck to everyone! You all will do amazing! =)

Yes expect there are loads getting their results on Friday so very good luck to you all.

Good luck to all Brits. Everyone who has been hard-working shall get a pat on the back, and receives a poppy, by me (imagine if I did, since I sadly cannot take a flight to Great Britain). :slight_smile:

Good luck to everyone! (including my brother) :open_mouth: Hope everyone does amazingly!

A* in Computer Science

GG hywel! Hope all goes well with university :smiley:

Thanks Dan but not uni yet :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: still got to do my A-Levels first

Isn’t A* suppost to mean A+? I am curious as * is used for telling you more info, at the bottom of people’s posts, and A+ is meant to say that you aced a test/quiz/pop quiz/assignment with a + saying that you did better than just a plain A. This must have been a typo by Hywel, and Asmodean, not noticing the + above the [{, which is right of the P letter. Also, I’m surprised that Asmodean made a typo with A*, instead of A+, this is uncommon for Asmodean to do this, as he never makes typos, and points them out when seen. But, this is only something I wanted to point out, in case no one noticed. Also, sweet on getting an A+ on Computer Science, Asmo. Let’s hope everyone else gets the results they wanted to get.

Nope, this isn’t a mistake, we have an A* (A Star) grade and an A+ (A Plus) here. They are changing, though: Click me!

(the current ones are on the right and the new ones are on the left)

Yeah Sams right in England we have an A* grade which is the highest achievable grade

Why the government keeps fucking around with the education system I really don’t understand. They have changed something fairly major (exam structure, grading etc.) every year for the past 5 or 6 years.

The grades, for me, are a bit hard to remember. I was born knowing A+ was in the 97-100 zone. When I saw the link, Sam, it said the numbers 1-9 is the new grading system, but does 9 mean you’ve aced the test, and 1 mean you failed the test? Also, what does the U, at the bottom of the chart, stand for?

I think it might go a little like this:

9 = Top half of A*
8 = Bottom half of A*
7 = A
6 = Top half of B
5 = Bottom half of B & top half of C
4 = Bottom half of C & top half of D
3 = Bottom half of D & top half of E
2 = Bottom half of E & top half of F
1 = Bottom half of F & a G

U = Ungraded (0 Marks) you probably have to turn up to the exam, write your name down and sit there doing nothing for an hour to get this mark. A U is the worst mark you can get.

When you say the 97 - 100 zone I assume you mean percentage… In which case, just so you know, our As - Fs aren’t set to a specific percentage (sorry, key doesn’t work - having to type the word)… Some tests can have really low grade boundaries since they are especially hard tests, while some tests (cough RS/RE cough) are incredibly easy, and the only reason why someone would find it hard is that they expect you to do a page and a half in 20 minutes 8 times [size=8pt](I believe it’s 8, with the 8 topics… (we only did half of them in our last end of year, since we’ve not covered all of them yet (entering year 11 (GCSE year) this year, so I’m not entirely sure what the actual GCSE exam is - 2 hour 40 mins seems excessive to say the least))) and so you have to get 95 percent to get an A.

Also, yes, I do like my extended clauses and complex sentences along with my bracket versions of… Shush. Get used to it.

The exam board sets rough grade boundaries, which are then refined based on percentages. The Department for Education releases their goals on what percentage of students should get what grade (e.g. the top 5% should get A*), and the grade boundaries are modified to fit this.
U stands for ‘Ungraded’ means that the pupil “achieved nothing worthy of credit”.

I got A* in Maths, Computer Science and English Language, and A in English Literature, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, RE, and Drama, and B in German. Because nobody likes German.

Nein!

I see now. The pupils are ranked upon their percentage on the test, compared to the rest of the class, in case the test were to be too hard or too easy. Good job on getting an A* on Math, Computer Science, and English Language. Math is fairly easy, as long as you know all the equations, and their answers, or else you would be confused on how to do the equations. My classes don’t have English Language, nor English Literature. The class is only called English, and that is the class I spend the most amount of time, in school.

c’mon… what else were you expecting?

oh and I got A* CS too

Anyone mind telling me the difference between GCSE, and the GCE exams? I’m taking the GCE exams in two years and while the system is obviously from the UK, it doesn’t seem that the GCE and the GCSE system is similar.
