Yo can I just say that I absolutely hate with a strong passion all sorts of final examinations? I’m generally a horrible test-taker and don’t do well under the pressure to do well on them. To me, a number should not determine your worth in study you’re applying yourself to. Unfortunately I had so much writing intensive courses this semester that literally all of them are having written exams rather than a final project.
In case you haven’t noticed it is that time of the year in which people like me go partially inactive due to stress and pressure. It doesn’t quite help that I’m literally busting my ass for catching up on all my assignments and preparing for my exams as they hit me this upcoming week and the next. Along with my 2 jobs you can say that I’m adulting pretty hardcore at the moment. By the time I’m home I literally want to go to sleep, its kind of crazy.
How do you guys feel about finals? Are you also partially inactive too? Interested to know how everyone else generally is doing, I think I haven’t been on PCB in like a solid week lol.
Haven’t been on the server since my post in the absence thread. I hate it! And I’m “smart”!!
I cannot relax for more than a second at the moment, and I’ve had more than one sleepless night over the proximity of exams and the stress it brings.
What makes it worse is that I’m a horrible procrastinator, and the urge to be a teen and have fun is overwhelming. Knowing that your life technically depends on these exams is a horrible feeling hanging over you constantly, and teachers love nothing more than to remind you of that fact every day.
Worse still, all the boys in my classes have taken up the opportunity to irritate me profusely, raising my stress levels through the bloomin’ roof.
I want these stupid exams over with. I’m sick and tired of high school - I just want to move onto college where I can learn the subjects I want to, then go to uni hopefully. Then, and only then, will my life actually start!
They say these days are the best days of your life, but teens get so much pressure put on them these days. I’m so glad I was born when I was, because there’s a new GCSE coming next where the equivalent to a B now will be a C! And they won’t get formulas in their exam papers, and they won’t get controlled assessments so all their grades will solely depend on exams!
RIP those born 2001+
You would’ve thought that someone like me would be fine, but people like me feel bad if they get anything less than A and feel like they’ve let everyone else down. There is too much pressure these days! And the government is only cutting funds for children’s/teen’s mental health!
Sorry I just had to rant about this. I’ve had to bottle my feelings up for ages because no one at my school could care less about what I feel.
I know how you feel there Mark. I got 4 finals back to back this week, but then I’m free for 4 months. FREEDOM IS SO CLOSE, BUT DAMN IS IT SO FAR. Thankfully, most of these are practical, so I don’t need to study tooooooo hard. But then there’s Networking… Fuck you Cisco, fuck you. -.-
I’m in 8th grade but I take 3 high school classes, so I’ll have to take my finals in a couple of weeks. Tomorrow starts the second week of standardized testing. Last year, Georgia cut the CRCT and made their own test: Georgia Milestones.
Why I hate Milestones:
SOOOO many techinical issues because we do them on our school laptops.
The test is disgusting, aesthetically.
All standardized tests only measure memory, not knowledge.
We have to write 1-2 essays per subject.
We don’t get our results until November.
They promised us these problems would be fixed by this year.
It would appear that they are around for 2 reasons:
So countries can show off to each other
So it’s less work for interviewers
Every year a country will try to get higher average results than the previous year to show improvement. Therefore what was a C becomes a B and then an A, and now they’ve decided that it’s gone too high up so they decide to switch to numbers. Now there will be 3 grades where there was just 1 at the top, now the UK can look like it’s improving again! WOOOHOOOOO!!!
I’m in the awkward transition year, (born in 2000-1), so I, like Asmo, will be getting A*- G in everything except maths and english, where we have the awkward 9-1 thing.
Not only that, but the whole exam thing is pointless anyway. They are entirely about cramming knowledge into your head, that you will never need again, and forget within a month.
Exams are like choosing our mods on PCB by who can memorise the most rules. Firstly the rules don’t really matter, because it’s just don’t be an idiot, so you would need to be able to work in the iffy bits, or in discovering things at work. Secondly, that doesn’t make them a nice person to have, and Thirdly, what about the good ones who aren’t so good at cramming stuff in their heads?
So, here’s my alternative for when you need to know something:
My elementary school used to have grades 1-4, 1 being the worst and 4 the best. I absolutely hated it. It made no sense, and you could hardly improve, because it was so compact. Middle and High schools in my town use letters which isnt as bad, but I wish they’d give Letter and percentage. shrug
I'm currently working on a big test for Algebra, and English. I finished the Algebra part, it took me 3 days. Now I will work on the English part, on Tuesday, Wednesday, and optionally Thursday, as there are 3 parts for both the Algebraic, and English tests. I'm not online because of this, I'm just working on my homework, or I'm on the Xbox. If you want my opinion on the major tests that occur at the end of our school years, my opinion is just to do your best. They could be hard, they could be long, but I think that you should do your best. Last year, my teachers told me that the major assessment that I took, last April, wouldn't affect my learning experience in school. This year, the major assessment is one of my necessities to graduate high school. If you're wondering what the name of this big test I took for two years is called, I'm not going to tell you. Anyways, just do your best.
I’m extremely inactive on the server bc skool. However, I’m hyped because I just have to make it through finals before I get to go to Japan with my friend!
I’m am a absolutely horable test taker. I will try so many different ways to study and nothin seems to work so far. I am a lot like you Prince. I don’t do well under the pressure of tests nomader how much I study. I dont have exams at the moment but will later on but, I did just have to wright a lab report. Those are hard and really not fun at all. So that would be the reason for my absence on the server. That has taken up pretty much all my week and came wait for when summer vacation roles around!
My finals begin in June, but I’ve been inactive this week because I’m already preparing a bit in advance for them. Hopefully I’ll be able to come online on the next week
I’m in IB, so I’m in constant bullshit anyways. Unrelated to the academic system, but just this month, I’ve been in 3 group projects where I did 80% or more of the work because my group mates were shitty. Anyways, good luck on the exams for everyone who is having them right now, I HOPE YOU ALL DO WELL AND CRUSH THOSE FINALS <3
