[size=12pt]Hey guys, I decided to make this post to share some basic tips that I found useful on how to improve the quality of your builds and towns.
[size=18pt]Tips for Building
[size=12pt]1.- Depth
The first thing you need to know, is that builds that look nice have depth. Depth really is the thing that’s going to make your builds come to life.
Take this wall for example, if you push the blocks in the middle back, you can tell huge overall difference and it looks a lot more interesting. Try playing around with it.
[size=12pt]2.- Originality
This one is hard for most the beginners. Originality consists on coming up with your own ideas to make your floors, walls, roofs and windows look a lot more interesting to look at. If you are struggling to come up with something new, try looking at others people builds for inspiration.
[size=12pt]3.- Block Choice
Block choice is really important throughout your entire build, so its a good idea to build a color palette before you start.
A color palette is a set of blocks laid out to be blueprints of the blocks you want in your build. Remember that the more you experiment the better you gonna get.
[size=12pt]4.- Detailing
Detailing and organization goes hand in hand, and sometimes less is more. Avoid unorganized and confusing block placement by keeping a pattern on your builds and thinking before you start placing blocks.
Try messing around with different patterns and when you find something you like, remember it and use it on your next build
[size=12pt]5.- Pratice
Pratice is absolutely crucial on building. If your first build doesn’t work out, no problem, start a new one. After a while you’ll see a difference and the more you stick with it the better you will get and before you know it you might be really happy with your next creation
[size=18pt]Tips for a better town
● Make sure you find a biome that fits your town theme (planes are usually fine and easy to work with).
● Cities that are build by the water are usually more realistic and look good in generally, a lot of in real life towns are build by the water, like Chicago, New York, etc.
● When you are starting your city, make sure that you do your roads first. Roads are important and you wanna hedge roads in your plots first because roads are obviously extremely important to make your city look more realistic.
I would start off with some small roads, don’t just jump right in and build a huge highway going straight down the middle of your map. Build some basic city roads, make sure you have a bunch of intersections and a bunch of plots just to get yourself started and then you can start to put some buildings and go from there;
● Don’t plan to far ahead. When you’re starting your city you usually have a lot of ideas in mind (like, oh I’m going to build a city wall, oh, I’m going to build a bunch of skyscrapers and a bunch of companies, houses etc.), all that stuff pilles up and will make you very stressed out. You wanna make sure that you do one thing at a time, don’t try to overdo it. Finish your buildings from start to finish before you move on to a next building.
● Small details loom large. By small details I mean adding things like streetlights, street signs, stop signs, billboards and pretty much all that type of stuff that you found on a regular city, that is going to give a lot more character and life to your town and makes it unique for other cities.
● Going along with making your city unique, I suggest you guys creating company on your towns. For example building a McDonald’s, SpllatPT industries, etc… That end up being a lot of fun and brings even more life to your town.
● Now, on a more technical level, I would recommend mixing up your heights on skyscrapers, just don’t make every single one of your building the exact same height or that will end up looking kinda weird.
● Get some friends and just build some buildings together, this helps bringing variability to your town, and lets face it, its always much funnier
