Those are the glory days

I feel like it is important to say it, but these are the glory days of PCB. I’ve seen people complaining on the forums that PCB has changed too much and that they preferred how it used to be 2 or 3 years ago.

In reality, this will probably be the first year PCB will be financially viable. We’ve also had a massive increase in newly registered players. And each time I check on the site, there is always a minimum of 10-15 players on the survival/creative map. I remember a year ago, sometimes no one would even be on the server.

So today, rather than being nostalgic about the past and have another debate on who’s behaving well or what not, we should congratulate ourselves for once. Be proud of what this server is becoming and know that each and every single one of us are a part of this success.

I agree

Amen. We all have put in so much effort. Look where we are now! Of course things might seem worse before they get better, but things are shaping up.

This is something I realized a while ago, When the server was back in its olde’ days it was mainly filled with people who knew and liked each other quite well. The fact that it was a smaller community ment that we all bonded together and become great friends with similar ideals.

Becoming a bigger server gave into the issue of a more diverse player base, Lots more age differences, race, religious views, genders (as in the amount of females vs males), backgrounds of all types.
This created somewhat of a diverse love hate octadecahedron. Where a single person loves some, likes some, is indifferent of some, dislikes some and hates others. Creating small feuds that often grew out of proportion as sides were taken.

Personally I enjoy the diversity of friendship that can grow here, But the garden isnt without its weeds.

Well said

Drunk Fatso is best fatso.

pats self on back one thing I would like to see, is what would happen if this server grew hugely popular. We only have 80 spaces, so how would the server react to 80 players on, all at once. And if we made the server bigger, allowed more people and fixed the obvious lag, we would be in a small cramped world of many sides and factions, fighting for the last bit of coal…

These truly are our glory days. Enjoy them while try last…

Completely disagree - to a point. Financially stable, now yes. But a core group of players I feel is much more vital, which we are losing/have lost. The community feel is/was a major attractor of new players but most of us have become bored with MC or left for good. It’s sad to see, having been on PCB for over 3 years. /endrant

People come, others leave! It’s the same for every server!

I completely agree with ka, the core group of players are important are slowly shedding. For the 3 years I have been here much has changed, but mostly in this most recent year. The change that I have noticed most is the feel that attracted and kept me on the server is gone, lots of tension and problems has caused this. 2 years ago small fun things IE: forsyth militia caused no problems, now if we did something like that you would instantly cause some problems all over the place.

At the same time I partially agree agree with DuckGyver. The server is financially stable and has a great flow of new members

my final statement is change affects a lot, it can be both bad and good… some people may not like it but it happens all we can do now is accept what is happening and appreciate all the work that led up to it.

More positive attitude! Don’t worry, be happy and all that. Really, I am just happy to see a positive outlook on events rather then “PCB is dying” as we had in the past.

The server is so much more stable than it was in the past, we have many more people playing, and staff are doing a damn good job keeping up with the griefers. We even have alternate servers popping up. PVP is active if people wish to try that.

I would argue our core player base is still here, albeit changed a bit.

I mean, even if people don’t get on the server every day, they are still a part of it.
While the likes of fili, sip, ka, hard, crass, rippor, deltavor, gba, sword, brodur, nam, anima, whubilly ect. don’t get on so much any more (if at all), we have new players that come on every day.

Dordsor, buddy, koala, panda, emma, skee, kostarius, jedi, christina, to name just a few.

Stuff changes. If you go to any group, people will leave, and new people will join. There will be some that show up for 1 session and then are never seen again. If you don’t like the changes, then you can always walk away, but when you come back, the changes will be even more obvious. And if you stay, you will see change, but change is not a bad thing.

Honestly, how boring would this server be if you logged in every day and exactly the same people were on as the day before?

I will sum up with a quote from Winston Churchill:

To improve is to change;
to be perfect is to change often.

I will say that Project city build feels different from before I left, it’s changed a lot but it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s gone sour, when I first came back I had this feeling of ‘who the fuck are all these people’ but everyone makes friends, perhaps not the same kind of friends as before but they’re still people. There’s still a bunch of people from back in the day.
I’ll try to name a few
Me, Ruby, Ital, Semi, Sacred, Shadow, Cherry, John, etc

Amen, brothaaah. Alcohol makes my philosophical, yet I can then never remember my “wise” words.

I remember 2 years back, smaller community around 20-30 slots on the server, everyone knew everyone. I felt like i took a 5 week break and suddenly the server went to 80 slots and pretty much what viao and patrick said. “who are you people”

I have been on just long enough to see the ‘old times’ (even if it was the 4 months ago ‘old times’) as I was often one of two or three, or sometimes the only person, online. I have to say, I did enjoy it back then, it all being calm, peaceful with no arguments etc etc, but now that the server has boomed within the last 3 or so months, I have realised that it is all needed to make a server which you want to be on, yes, arguments happen, but isn’t it the same where-ever you go? Think about school, and your group of friends, you will argue from time to time, regardless of how good friends you are, as that is just what happens. Take the increase of people as a blessing, more people to laugh and joke around with, more people to build with, a much larger variety of builds.

Think about all of the good sides of more people, as ducky said it’s much more financially stable, and don’t complain about more people joining, because what do you actually want to do about it, ban any new people that come on? Whitelist it? Either of those two could devastate the server, as slowly less and less people would donate, and old players will not be replaced by new.

So embrace the bigger community, and enjoy it, as it does a lot more good than bad.

thanks

Never said I’d stop going on the forums, ye.

Well, after playing for a year, I think it is safe to say this server used to be pretty empty all the time. Which sucked, cause then you’d go on and nobody would be there. But when people were there, you really knew them, you were bros, ya know? 10 people on at a time would only really happen at typical American times, so I rarely got to see any peeps. But a lot of the reason I stopped playing was cause I never knew anyone, I liked the peace of having 3 or 4 players rather than 15 or 16. If I were to log in now I wouldn’t know anybody there, and I’ve only been gone a few weeks.

And yeah, change is good and that stuff, but I’ve never really liked this change tbh. I liked knowing who is who, having a good laugh with them, being able to say stuff that wouldn’t offend them, blah blah. Now with so many people it’s much harder. Especially since it seems there are a few more younger players.

So it’s good for most, but sucks for the people like me that liked a tighter knit community.

Okay now it’s time to disappear for a few weeks then pop up again.

ahh, does anyone else remember the firework show on new years 2013?

Yea I’m going to quote a few people here.

Okay I am going to quote Ruby next in this, but just because you were part of the ‘OG’ core does not make you any more important than any other player in reality. I think it is something to say that you have been part of the server for so long, and that is definitely of value, but resisting every change because of that is kind of silly. It really is. The server has to change to accommodate growth.

Being financially viable shows two really important things, well one, but whatever. The first is that we are stable, as in people are no longer paying out of pocket to have a server, and that is HUGE, like I said though that is really inherent in the definition of financially viable. The other thing is that this shows that to a larger extent the community is happy. If more people are donating, we must be doing something right yes? We are never going to be able to satisfy everyone, but holding voting threads, etc, we can do our best to satisfy the majority. Plus we have a pretty active forum user-base to accommodate these votes.

That’s that, and I understand it’s damn easy to get frustrated with the community, because of your own selfish reasons. It happened to me earlier this week, and probably why I was more inactive than ever.

I personally wish we could get all these stupid grudges gone and done for good and just kiss and make up I think we need to embrace the change get out from our comfort zones and explore what PCB is turning into. Thank you Ducky for posting this amazing and uplifting thread.
