and as most of you know I’m from the Netherlands - Amsterdam
The plane had 295 people on board, it was shot down by a pro-Russian separatist group in Ukraine. I believe at this point it was confirmed that all 295 people are dead, and that the separatist group used a Buk SAM system to shoot it down (under the belief that they had shot down a Ukrainian transport plane. )
I had just heard about the crash some moments before I saw your topic. The plane was travelling at an altitude of 10km (9.7 miles), I wonder how they were able to shoot it down. Either way, that stupid conflict needs to end right now, it has just gone way too far.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces Shot it down, in order to provoke the Russians and the Self Defense Forces to react rashly. It was a provocation, quite clearly. Furthermore, the Donetsk Peoples Republic Armed Forces do not have a BuK-SAM System, that is currently only retained, in that region, by the Ukrainian Government Forces. The Plane was flying at 10,000 Meters, well out of the effective range of the largest AA Unit the Donetsk Republic Has, which is 5KM. Therefore, There is no way the Self Defense Forces shot it down.
Quite Clearly it is a provocation, and the investigation headed by the Ukrainian MVD is obviously going to get nowhere. However, Hopefully the Malaysian Investigation will make headway into this matter, because all the news so far, most of all BBC and CNN, has been Speculation, not fact.

if the BBC and CNN are both just speculation, how do you know this isn’t?

total of 298 people died on that commercial airplane which got shot out of the sky.
Oh my God, I know a few people from the Netherlands who were travelling these days… I’m speechless, really, there has to be some kind of foreign intervention to end the conflict, because both sides simply can’t reach an agreement and will just keep killing each other. This is just so freaking terrible, my heart goes out to the families of the victims.
Malaysian Airlines, and the Boeing 777-200ER can’t catch a break. While we can rule out most people (ManPads could not reach 10 000m), the probability is that a Buk missile system was used (in service with Russia and Ukraine). My dearest condolences to all the families and friends who had loved ones aboard.
