Plus it would be pretty hard to differ the debate from normal chat
we could add a plugin allowing local chat that only applies to that building, nobody else except maybe staff would know. And if someone said something that would be against the rules, the other could take screenshots and report it, and that would prevent people from being excessive. Its moderation on the honor system which wouldnt be as reliable as on the forums, but tbh I think going back and forth on the forums would take a very long time and clutter the forums

It would be better to not clutter the forums, and rather bring the parliament building to use by having the debaters go inside in order to debate in the local chat.
Maybe we could do a multi-chatroom plugin to keep it aside from regular gametime on the server. If it’s going to happen I just don’t think it would be appropriate to have in-game. Lots of people don’t follow the forums so there going to miss that. Others will just probably get heated/offended/pain to deal with.
Maybe Teamspeak or Discord as backup choices otherwise?
This is an odd concept mainly because there’s no structure. If you’re going to build a debate arena i’m assuming you take the topic seriously. If so, debates are typically planned out a bit more considering it is an event. Both persons/teams have a topic they oppose one another with and they study their material vigorously pre event day. There is also a host and sometimes a few judges including the host who is very knowledgeable on the subject matter. A real debate is treated like a game where there is a winner and a loser. The reason im bringing all this to your attention is because if you’re creating place to host debates you should probably do it the proper way. Which also means contestants are timed, and because of that you may want to consider using TS. Using global chat in a debate would be a very poor way to execute your idea considering anyone and everyone can interrupt.
You should probably consider making an event or announcement post about it including dates, subject, rules, contestants etc… If you dont feel like doing all this than I really dont see the point in creating one at all. Unless you’re just bored and want to build one for aesthetic purposes.
In response to @Namillo ,
I doubt anyone is going to want to do this the “proper way”. I figure everyone wants to share their opinions and what they know, to make everyone better educated and able to back up their opinions with reasoning. Scheduling it could be a good idea, just so it’s not 2 or 3 people. However, I’m not sure about everyone else, but I definitely wouldn’t want to do research and prepare statements and all that, I would just want to talk.
falls off soapbox
In that case maybe rename it ‘Discussion Hall’ or something along that line?

Actually that is a pretty good idea xD
though I made this thread more like a concept and see what people think about it. Keep it up I’m curious what ideas you come up with
yeah ill be honest, id be too lazy to bother to write something in advance, use TS, forums, make citations or anything else along those lines. ingame local chat would be best
Yeah, I love debating! Arguing with people in chat is fun as long as it doesn’t get you banned!
