Oracia Town Ideas

As I said in my introduction topic, Anjwalker and I plan to make our own town for our NS-Roleplay region called Oracia. We have a little area that is pretty far away from others, and we plan to build it there. The theme of our town is going to be our roleplay world and our community. I had some ideas for what the town could be and include:

-Building on the water: We have a lot of water around Anj’s house and we’re right on the “ocean”, so building on the water is a logical choice. I was thinking either a venice-style canal type of thing or a lot of wooden walkways and houses built on wooden pillars. Personally, I prefer the canal idea, but that might be a lot of work. Either way, we’ll be building on the water somehow, as well as along the cliffs that are around our area.
-Houses: Obviously, houses will be around. I’m not sure if we’ll offer places to rent, but I don’t see why not.
-Inn: an Inn/pub would be nice to have for weary travellers. It would be called the “Wolf’s Tavern”
-Temple: I figured we’d take one of the religions from our roleplay world and build a temple about it. Personally, I want Lordeism, which is actually a joke religion based on the music artist Lorde.
-Town Hall/Ministry Building: This would be the main hub of the whole town, and would be where the ministers (those who control and administrate our forum and community) would have their offices.
-Hall of Oracians: This would be a museum of sorts where we would have little descriptions of various nations from our world and maybe some statues and other cool stuff.

So anyway, anybody have any tips or pointers? Ideas related to the canals would be nice, as I’m still deciding what would be the best way to get those started up
