yes liam, i think it would.
Haven’t tried the halfsteps yet but fences definitely work.
As long as the redstone torch setup with the 4 blocks above them stays the same, it should work.
Glass might be better than cobble for it so the redstone torches aren’t partially blocked.
I’m liking your idea BUT, i just tried this out and its spamming the lava colliding with water sound 
yes, it does that… and somethimes it needs to be reset when you relog.
