so my friend groot945 wanted to sign up for member on PCB and he did the application and everything and it said could not create account because the username has root in it. Is there any suggestions on how my friend can sign up? Also why cant root be in someone’s name?
Sound unlikely. Let me investigate.
I was able to make a dud account “RootJUSTATEST” without a hitch. Root is not a banned word, as are any others as far as I know.
I would like to see a screenshot of this error.
Do you mean the character √?
That (and almost all non-alphanumeric characters) is banned for security reasons by our forum.
I had this issue before with someone else. SMF prevents usernames having ‘root’ in it, because that’s the name of the linux default user (no idea why that’s a security risk but ok…). Staff can bypass this.
If you PM me your friend’s email I can create the account for you.
This is because someone could potentially name their account groot945'); DROP TABLE Users; --
ok ill ask him thx for the help everyone!
