"Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!"

A recent discussion of world resets has sparked an idea in my mind. Why reset the world when all of peoples’ hard work is just… gone, POOF! And then they have to start all over again. But If we take down the world walls, then there is infinite land for new ideas! And if people don’t want their towns anymore, w/e users can reset that land and new builds can rise. Now the world wall is understandable for Big City, but for creative/survival it just doesn’t really make sense. So lets work to TEAR DOWN THIS WALL!

WOOOOOOO!
The people are uniting! Save the builds, expand the world!

AFAIK, wouldn’t expanding the map not run as well for the server due to the larger size and more data? Personally, I don’t think it’s time for a reset yet, but when it is, what’s wrong with starting fresh? If you really like your city, you can always expand to it with a map download.

But, yeah, I don’t think a reset yet is necessary.

We haven’t even considered a reset at all and probably won’t for a long time so stop worrying so much.

Just so we’re clear cause Ive had a few people ask me now regarding this post:

There are no plans in the near foreseeable future to update either of our maps at this time. Our maps aren’t even used that much in comparison to past maps for this beginning year so please quit your worrying, and only take info that is from Staff to be true.

As others said, we do not have any plans as of now to reset the map.

And to be honest and blunt, deleting world borders is a stupid idea. The purpose of them is so that we don’t get stress on the server from people loading a shitton of chunks that will never be used. We do it to limit data, and ensure lag is minimal. There’s probably even more reasons, so yes, we need world borders.

Here's how many days we've been on the 8th Creative Map (July 7, 2015): 6 months, 3 days. There's no need for resetting the world. The 7th Creative Map went on to be 2 years old! This map should deserve it's time at PCB. The 8th Creative Map is here to stay. ::)

If anything, the server needs to go dedicated before we could even consider removing borders.

The intense lag seems to be caused by the disks that read/write data too slowly (e.x. chunk lag, block lag, etc.). A dedicated server with SSDs seems like the right choice before extending borders.

my idea for server lags is to just ban redstone. simple as that. u can easly find huge redstone buildings and machines on our server, that for sure r not neutral when it comes to server stability. also, we cant afford dedicated server.

We do indeed have a dedicated server, but chunk generation still uses immense amounts of CPU.

The border will not be removed due to the above reasons.

I don’t have any ideas to reduce the server lag, but I don’t think it’s redstone. Lately there’s been talk of this “corrupted chunk”, I don’t know if it exists or not but I saw someone on the ban list got banned for going there. Plus, jakethyslayer (friend of mine) said that all the types of lag people seem to be experiencing point to corrupted data.

It’s not the world border, or redstone, because I’ve used this server before the world border was put in place and we never experienced problems as bad as this.

All I’m saying is, there’s probably corrupted data and we’ll have to wait for staff to find the problem. I’m positive they’re working hard because the lag has been significantly reduced recently, even if there are still some crashes. For the mean time I’m still going to play on this server because I love it so much  XD

The wall is fine, the map is fine.

PS, is the corrupted chunk a thing? Was it removed?

We’ve almost always had a world border. When did you join?

July 29, 2013 lmao

At least I don’t THINK we had a world border then. I’m pretty sure I would’ve discovered it.

We have had a world border since early Beta.
