Well you read the title. It is down and most likely will stay down until March 5th or 6th
Why, March 5th? Well Mojang Specifications has just Departed for GDC (Game Developers Conference) 2011 in San Francisco,California USA. Now it will probably stay down unless they can fix this problem from their laptops. (I know very little about networking so idk if this is possible.) So yeah thats it. :-\
thats some seriously unreasonable downtime… i dont get why their entire company has to abandon their work stations to go there, surly they will have someone to stay and make sure things are running ok? god, do they have no sense of customer satisfaction?
Hopefully, if it is down,it will be on and off like it has been today rather than completely nothing at all for a week…
Don’t know if i could last a week on single player…
Well they do only have 8 members and only 1 or 2 do networking. This is also there first formal apperance as a company so they didnt want to leave anyone behind.
Meh, ohwell. More time for me to make a big boat in single player, then send the schematics for it to Andy and add it to the beta server! 
One of the Mojang employees just tweeted that they are aware of the issue and are resolving it now. Stay tuned!
