Looking for a New computer.

My Desktop is Kaput, can’t read it’s own hard drive, so I’m in the market for a new computer. I’m open to buying prebuilt, or building myself, but the product must be sold in Canada, or able to ship to Canada for a reasonable price.

Desired Specifications:

  • 8GB RAM or more
  • 2TB Hard drive
  • 8 USB Ports 2.0 or higher
  • 2 CD-Drives with atleast one capable of burning
  • Graphics Card capable of running DX11 (Preferably AMD)
  • Quad Core Processor (Preferably Intel)
  • Tower must be function over form, no frilly nonessential things such as fancy power buttons that break if you give them a wrong look.
  • Sufficient power supply + 75 Watts or so
  • Fan Cooled
  • Computer MUST be 64bit
  • And of course, a motherboard up to the task.

Total cost must come to rest under $1000 CAD

If you need me to clarify anything just ask, and thanks in advance for your (hopefully) helpful replies.

I dont have access right now but check out newegg.ca and ncix.ca. Helped with my first build

Did this real quick… Could improve… All in CAD

I ran through that site and this is what I cam up with: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/3dv3y
If the price can be whittled down to add another fan or two, by all means go ahead.

Why do you need so many fans? If you buy a Z87 board you should get an unlocked CPU (k-series) otherwise it’s a waste of money. That’s skimping a little on the power supply as well, even though Corsair is a good brand, likely it will still work, but with cheap models like that pushing them is not always the best idea.

Other than that looks good.

My main reasoning to getting atleast another fan was airflow, but if you say I don’t need another I’ll take your word for it. What I would like to know though is, can I get a cheaper graphics card that still does fairly well with DX11? Also, will I need to add thermal compound to my list to slather on the processor between it and the heatsink?

If you are using the default CPU cooler then no. I use the default and run about 40C on my CPU (from the generation previous) on max load.

I would have to look at some charts to compare graphics cards, which games in particular?

I think that case has 2 fans already and honestly that should be plenty.

My highest hurdle would probably be the up and coming “Star Citizen,” anything higher than that would probably bankrupt me to buy anyhow xD Also, the case has only one built in fan, at the top of the back panel i believe.

Build selected. In conference with my two IT friends we came up with this: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/3eCAI
Parts should arrive by next Monday
