Let's talk about books :)

Hello! If you don’t already know, I love to read. I read almost every day. I would like to know what books and/or series do you like to read?

Favourite books:
Fuzzy Mud by Louis Sachar
The Messenger of Fear by Michael Grant
Magnus Chase and the Sword of Summer by Rick Riordan
Shatter me & Unravel me by Tahereh Mafi

Favourite series:
Gone by Micheal Grant
Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan

I’ve read a lot of other books but these are my favourite of them all.

My favourites are: Girl Online
Girl Online: On Tour
Girls Can Vlog: Lucky Lockett Online Disaster
Favourite series:
Dork Diaries

I just started the infamous book “Man in the High Castle” earlier, and finished (I know, its a play) Macbeth a few weeks ago.

Favorite series so far is probably the Hunger Games, Maze Runner or the Leviathan.

I’ve read too many books to list them all, but I wouldnt define myself as a book worm.

my fav, Girl on the train ;D

This has become my favourite book since I got told it would be the key to passing my exams

And yes, it is just as interesting and exciting as it sounds…

As for like story books, I recently read all 3 Hunger Games books in 3 days

Series that I keep coming back to read: Harry Potter, Artemis Fowl, Percy Jackson, The Kane Chronicles, The Missing series

And some other books: 2001 A Space Oddesy, Wonder, The Book Theif, Charlie and the Choclate Factory, The Hypnotists, maybe the First Hunger Games too

Do I qualify in the Bookworm College Scholarship fund?

My two favorites right now

Carry On, by Rainbow Rowell -
essentially gay Harry Potter, but a little bit different

Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda, by Becky Albertelli -
another LGBTQ+ YA novel, excellent story

Books I keep reminding myself to read, but never do

Marvels, by Brian Selznick -
by the author of The Marvelous Invention of Hugo Cabret

Wolf in White Van, by John Darnielle -
book about a video game designer with a disfigured face, been meaning to pick it up

When I was younger around age 11-13 some of my favorite series were the Ga’hoole series and the Black Stalian series. I am currently reading To Kill A Mockingbird (required reading for school.) Although a really good book that I have read this year is Note On the Refrigerator Door. The book consists of a conversation between a girl and her mom all through notes they leave on the refrigerator (hence the name.)

Ive read every single book in the Lord of the Rings Series, including the Hobbit, Silmarillion, Unfinished Tales and The Children of Hurin

these are all amazing and i would only reccomend them to certain people beyond The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings, as the other books are all back story. Hell the Silmarillion literally reads like the Middle Earth Bible, including the creation of middle earth, the birth of the Elves, Men Dwarves, and how the Orcs came into being, as well as the first bad guy named Morgoth (pronounced Morgof). Honestly i love deep Mythologys like this and can’t live without them. My only other faveorite series would be the Inheritence Saga (First book is called Eragon). I promise you the book was a billion times better than that trash film that came out several years ago.

Series:
Robert Jordan: Wheel of Time (no shit look at my username)
J.R.R. Tolkien: Lord of the Rings + associated novels
R.A. Salvatore: Legend of Drizzt

Standalone books:
Larry Niven: Ringworld
Arthur C Clarke: Childhood’s End
Adrian Tchaikovsky: Children of Time
Stephen Baxter: Ultima (I know it’s technically a sequel but the first one was crap)
Neal Stephenson: Seveneves

Ayy!

Hopefully people will agree with me when I say the Gone series by Michael Grant. They are as fascinating as they are gruesome. Definitely not something for more peaceful and quiet people. I got nightmares!

Agreed

Oh cool I wonder what these teens and preteens will do when suddenly there’s no adu
OH MY GOD WHAT THE FUCK

Exactly what I was thinking… ;D

I finished reading Phillip Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy recently, which I really enjoyed. I’d also recommend 11/22/63 by Stephen King, which is about somebody going back in time to stop the assassination of JFK. It did take me a bit to read as it is 849 pages, but I enjoyed it.

Seriously though, the book of Ezekiel:
3:1-3:

And he said to me, “Son of man, eat what is before you, eat this scroll;"[...] So I ate it, and it tasted as sweet as honey in my mouth.
4:1-2:
“Now, son of man, take a block of clay, put it in front of you and draw the city of Jerusalem on it. 2 Then lay siege to it: Erect siege works against it, build a ramp up to it, set up camps against it and put battering rams around it."
4:15:
“Very well,” he said, “I will let you bake your bread over cow dung instead of human excrement.”

It’s not exactly bedtime reading. I’d rather read about the tribulations of Rand Al’Thor than eight generations of begatting.

I’m more of a history guy myself. That said, I’m a fan of OSPREY PUBLISHING’s World War Two series (short documentary - like books)

One of my favourite series of all time was the ‘Kingkiller Chronicles’ or I would imagine more widely known by the name of it’s first book (like A Song of Ice and Fire, now the series is known as Game of thrones (also one of my favourite series)) ‘the Name of the Wind’.
I love these books because of the depth of detail they go into, and that the descriptions of everything, it is nearly LotR detail… is what an English teacher would want you to say…
Mainly, the reason I like the books (and the reason I would like any book) is the story… It is based in a fantasy environment, with it’s own system of magic (like any good fantasy book should have, not abracadabra, looking at you, Harry ‘Scumbag’ Potter).

While these books may be among my favourite books of all time, there is one that stands out in a league of it’s own; the Lord of the Rings. I don’t think I need to say why, it should just be clear.

And then this list wouldn’t be complete without Discworld. I’m sure you have already heard about Discworld from Asmnodean, but I must mention it as well. It is a series of 41 books, and is based on a huge discworld (who would have expected that?). It is a fantasy book with lots of different types of magic. It is not based around one character, but many, spread all over the discworld. Pratchett (RIP) has been incredibly clever in his writing, basing some of the books off preexisting stories/plays and twisting them into the discworld style. He has also covered quite a few morality based topics in his books.

Well at the moment I’m reading Lord Of The Flies AND Of Mice And Men for school. I’m the last ever year that will read LOTF and OMAM because there’s a new GCSE spec next year - A Christmas Carol (yay new spec…)
In my spare time (if I ever get any) I’m actually reading My Little Pony books… I know… it’s my form of escapism from exam stress XD
I’m gonna read Twilight Sparkle and The Crystal Heart Spell next! XD they’re great.
When I was younger I used to be a huge fan of Percy Jackson and Heroes of Olympus (I still haven’t read the final book actually… whoops NO SPOILERS PLS)
I know I should read more, I really want to! I kinda write more than I read, which is just as fun in my opinion. My friends say I’m actually quite good
