Ok so a few days ago my Internet randomly stopped working (nothing happens when I click on IE7). Now we could get it fixed by clearing the internet’s history. This suddenly stopped working right afer I finished playing on minecraft. So my parents are blameing it on minecraft. I’m sure that it’s not causing it because this only started happening 2 days ago and I got the game a month ago. So any suggestions as to why this is happening and what I can do to stop this madness (or Sparta) once and for all? Because my parents may want me to stop playing Minecraft. :’(. NUUUUUUUUUU!1!1!1!!!1111!!!11@
Well, I don’t believe the cause is Minecraft at all. Most likely you have a virus or other malware that is affecting your system’s settings. Have you tried other browsers such as Firefox?
I may even be able to remotely assist you in fixing your computer. I use a free program called team viewer 5 which allows me to control your computer from here. This is no hacking, but remote assistance. If it is just a settings issue, it should be easy to fix. If it is a virus, the scanning software will likely take hours.
Try Malwarebytes first. It will likely find the virus and remove it. After that, you only need to reset IE’s settings to default. That will almost always fix it.
Give me a number to call (PM me) and a good time (w/timezone) to call. That is, if you are still having trouble. Oh, and no charge of course. Actually, would it be an international call? If so, then we can do this from here too. Let me know.
i agree with kyle, first run some anti spyware (avg, glarly utilities, spybot, norten ect) and if either no problems are found, or if they are found then fixed, i suggest trying firefox also, windows explorer has always been buggy for me and ive found firefox to be very sturdy and reliable =]
if you cant seem to fix this with the scans and browser change then i sugest taking kyle up on his offer, the man seems to know a thing or two
Just to say, i used team viewer 5 yesterday to help a friend an omg its cool and safe
Btw have you tryed running a antivirus? or maybe restoreing your pc to a previouse date?
if u need a guide ill haply post one, and btw have u installed a windows update beacuse my aunt had this problem an i found with alittle help that the update had not intsalled the files right so it wouldnt load IE , anyway get off IE and join Firefox . tbh i hate IE i dread using it
but if your really stuck i would go with the team viewer 5 option, its safe and quick and alot easyer than explaining what to do
Yes we tried restoring and all it said was that it couldn’t restore. Oh and we have Norton Antivirus. It works real well but hasn’t detected anything other than cookies. So nothing bad. Oh and kyle, I will try theese things and I will take up your offer if they don’t work. Thanks dude! Glad to see I have friends on the internet! =3
Just so you know, no single anti-virus will catch all problems. At the same time, it is horrible to have more than 1 anti-virus. This is why anti-malware programs like Spybot and malwarebytes are highly recommended to go with an anti-virus.
Another thing to be aware of, your anti-virus could be infected itself, and may give you false readings. If you can, run malwarebytes in safe mode. This will make it faster and ensure no interference from other programs.
Last thing - I recommend you not use Norton. My reasoning is this, your have to pay every year for its service, when others do it for free, and it is somewhat bloated. Try Avast or AVG instead. They are free anti-virus programs that have served me well. The money that Norton makes is sickeningly high. Especially since everyone needs an anti-virus. They could charge 15 dollars a year, and still make money.
Did you know :
Norton is one of the most powerful anti-virus of all? And therefore, nearly all virus makers try to DESTROY Norton so these viruses are likely to attack Norton antivirus, disable them and take over you computer.
I agree with Kyle. Change your Antivirus with something like Avast or NOD32
Avast is really great, it has good capabilities and I am liking the Full Boot Time Scan wherein it scans your system when you haven’t login yet! And License is free! Just send in your email, send a message to them and you get your own licence for 1 year! Downside about avast FOR ME is that the updates are annoying, updating every single day and showing a popup about it. Well, it’s a small price to pay for a good protection.
NOD32 is what I currently use right now and so far no viruses for me. It’s likely because I don’t go check other websites that might be harmful to the system. NOD32 also blocks websites that contains high threat when it comes to viruses. NOD32 knows this because I THINK that they block specific websites which are then sent to the software. It doesn’t have the annoying updates like Avast but it doesn’t have the useful capabilities of Avast. Also, unlike Avast, you gotta update your License once every few months or else it will shut off the antivirus protection and leading you to more risks. You can search google for free license for NOD32 but you gotta disable it first or else it will block it(still safe).
And one more thing, to prevent any viruses entering your system you can do the following :
-Don’t visit unknown sites. If it looks suspicious, like for example searching something and they have the answer, but also showing other answers, don’t go for them.
-Get USB Disk Security and MalwareBytes. This greatly reduces the risk of contaminating your system by means of USB. USB viruses may come simply from hiding your folders to formatting your USB or damaging your system. The anti-virus will take care about the damaging part, but it’s highly possible that its useless on removing malwares in it. So, Malwarebytes takes care of it.
Well that’s all I can share.
If you’re in the UK and you use Virgin media broadband, tv ect. you can get their antivirus which i think is free. My dad installed it on my laptop for me so i wouldnt know.
Yes, I’ve been doing reaserch on viruses. I plan to get Malware Bytes and either Avast or NOD. It’s just a matter of convincing my dad to put it on our computer.
Kedji, thank you for the additional information. Your issue with Avast is a moot one though. Did you know it has update settings you can change to silence the update? Or that you can set it for manual updates like I do? I agree that a pop up at every update is annoying as heck, but doesn’t Norton do that too?
Jet,
It should not be difficult to convince your dad if you show him some information about Avast and others. How do you beat free and as good as Norton? The only problem is if he has already paid for the service. Then you may as well keep it till it expires.
As for safety in internet browsing? I highly recommend NoScript for Firefox. It will block all pop ups and any hacking site will fail to attack you. you have to manually allow each site you deem safe, but it is worth it. It learns as you use it, so you don’t have to allow every page every time.
Oh, and to speed up my computer, I disabled the virus scanner from scanning files as I read them. It scans when files are written instead. That way, it does not constantly hog system resources when I browse my files. The only danger then lies in files from outside your computer. I just have it scan those devices when they connect. Oh, and it still scans exe, bat, and java files.
Did anybody come to the conclusion yet that Internet explorer sucks?
And that you should just get: Chrome or firefox.
I’m serious here. don’t take this as a flame.
Firefox ftw , ive had it for about 4-5 years and ITS never let me down, even if it fucks up u can backup firefox so its easy to get back what you have … also Cool firefox addons . Fastdial and Adblocker cant go wrong
Agreed. IE is 10 years behind internet standards for programming and code compliance. IE9 is a step in the right direction, but it still does not compare to Firefox or Chrome
Firefox.
that fox is hot
well guess the moral of the story is use firefox or chrome
Get chrome canary its like a pre-alpha I love it… have to have chrome beta just in case lol
