I’ve seen some coll letters that some people use in theyre sigs and I was wondering o you jsut edit it by hand or there is some command?
Use a different font when you are making it.
Like styles? In mine there are two layers of text for each word to get that effect. Most others like glows and shadows are layer styles in Photoshop atleast. You double click on the layer and it’ll bring up a dialog where you can do different things easy 
I think I works the same in GIMP I’m not 100% though, I don’t use gimp often.
Ah, yeah using a different font is the simplest way to make it look a bit more unique and stand out more. Just google for a fonts website such as Da Font, then search around on there for one you want. You can sue the preview feature, then printscreen that and crop it if you don’t want to download the font.
Like sip said, you can also add effects such as glow, blur etc. Gimp should have a few, just mess around with some effects and see what looks good.
