Homeworld and Paul Ruskay music

Hey PCB, I recently started a game entirely because of who made the music for it. Strike Suit Zero.

I don’t know if any of you will know the game, but Homeworld is easily my favorite game series of all. Specifically, the story in 1 and the gameplay in Cataclysm. Homeworld 2 was a disappointment to me.

This first vid is a short version of Mission 3 from Homeworld 1. As the uploader wrote, “one of the most moving, touching, heart-breaking and sad in the whole video gaming history”. I agree.

Backstory (From wikipedia):
100 years ago, a satellite detected an object under the sands of the Great Desert.
An expedition was sent.
An ancient starship, buried in the sand. Deep inside the ruin was a single stone that would change the course of our history forever.
On the stone was etched a galactic map
and a single word more ancient than the clans themselves:
Hiigara.
Our home.

The clans were united and a massive colony ship was designed.
Construction would take 60 years.
It would demand new technologies, new industries and new sacrifices.
The greatest of these was made by the scientist Karan Sjet who had herself permanently integrated into the colony ship as its living core.
She is now Fleet Command.
The promise of the Guidestone united the entire population.
Every mind became focused on the true origin of our people …
… every effort on the construction of the ship that would seek it out among the stars.

By the way, Karan was made into the core because they could not create a computer that was good enough to for all the needs of a ship like it. It was massive. The ship became her body (of sorts) and another race they meet later on really respect the Hiigarans because of what she is. They are much the same. An entire race who now exist as ships.

Paul’s music is one of the best parts of these games. Talk about setting an atmosphere…

I know what you mean in regards to music in games. It’s one of those things that you don’t necessarily notice unless you pay attention, but has a huge impact on the gameplay. It could be hinting that something is about to happen or is ending, builds tension and makes the whole experience more dramatic.

In short:
Music. Yes.

Homeworld is fun
