I am Naora, and I joined this because I want a nice, big creative city to build in. I frequently visit skyscraper forums because I love architecture, skyscrapers, and large buildings in general, and hopefully I can contribute my building designs to this world!
While I have a futuristic city of my own that I’ve been working on in a mix of creative mode and MCEdit, I thought it would be fun to join an established server with other players for a change. I’ve always wanted to build a city on the scale of Coruscant from Star Wars, so this might be the place.
If you want to build in our current BigCity, you’ll need a SOP or an Admin to approve you, but feel free to build in the older version at /warp bigcity
One technique that I discovered for building skycrapers quickly, assuming they’re just simple shapes and not Shanghai Tower-esque complexity, was to build out the first floor (or first few floors if the first floor is a double-height lobby) including the stairwells, core, and elevator shaft, and then opening the world in MCEdit. What I then do is place a temporary stack of blocks in the center of the core to use as an anchor for the cursor, then I copy and paste floors on top of each other.
Of course, this probably isn’t viable to do in anything other than a one-man world, and takes the authenticity out of it, but it does help speed up building time tremendously. I’d imagine something the size of New York City could be at least built by a handful of people if they did something similar. It’ll probably never happen, but it’s at least remotely possible.

Don’t worry, I’m alright with just using creative mode. It’s more fun that way, and I really don’t see much of a need for world edit on a large server. Anyway, are there any particular lots I could build skyscrapers on? I’m thinking of building a 1:1 scale 432 Park Ave.

The tower itself would be 31 x 31 blocks, with a glass retail section attached to it at its base. The building is roughly 1398 feet tall, so that translates to 425 blocks tall to be to scale with the width. If the height limit is only 256 blocks high on this server, I’ll just build it to the highest floor possible, in hopes that the limit may someday be raised. If not, it’d still look nice at a fraction of its intended height. Just let me know which plot of land would be appropriate for such a building, and then I could get to work on the foundation!
