Had an interesting experience today...

Today I received my replacement SSD. So I put it in, and then turned my computer on. The next thing I know, there is a plume of smoke blowing out of computer :O. I unplugged my computer and looked at what happened. Apparently one of my 1 TB Hard drives caught fire. The connection between the power cable and the hard drive partly melted, as you can see below.

Woah! Never even heard of this happening before. Let us know what the retailers said about the incident. Did you simply return it or did you contact the manufacturer?

It was still under warranty, so I got an RMA number and I can get a replacement. Though I need to get the data off of it.

I would be interested to know what Western Digital has to say about this as well.

Was it the PSU that caused that or the Hard Drive failing?

Whoa. I’ve never heard of this either. So this just happened? Just like that? Very unusual…
