You pick a team, and then complete challenges in games, get achievements in any game, or buy new games, to earn points. These points can be used to boost your team to get further in the daily race. At the end of the day, a few randomly selected members from each of the top 3 teams will get the game from the top of their wishlist for free, so put something good up there!
When you boost your team, you also get tokens. These can be used to buy profile badges, profile backgrounds, chat emoticons, and a discount on the whole steam store.
