Dutch Exams

Well we had some fun here last week =)

here in the Netherlands we have a system where all the last year students must do an Exam at the same time over the whole country. This is way it is fair. A few weeks ago a Huge amount of exams where stolen in a school which made it so that those exams can be denied for every student in the WHOLE country and that they have to do it over. I’m also waiting for the final judgement.

There are stupid ppl in the world who screw the Minds of 100.000 students at all on the same time.

This is just a funny thing that happened here in the netherlands.

WHY

Exams can be annoying.

The worst thing with mine is how they mark them.
They allocate a certain percentage of students that are allowed to get a specific mark, then will adjust the boundaries to make sure there’s a spread of grades.

The way it works is only a certain amount of people are allowed to get an A. So, the paper could be really easy, everyone does well, but then your mark on the paper is converted into a generic mark out of 60. This can then allow grade boundaries be skewed so only something like 10% of pupils get an A. That means you may have done really well, but not as good as some elite students, so you end up getting a C or D, but on last years grading you may have had an A or B.

It’s similar in some practical science exams we have called ISA’s. If you get above a certain mark, you get given extra marks! Yay! But if you get below that mark, you get marks taken off you. Not so yay. This spreads out pupils marks across the board so people aren’t as close together. So you may have got 1 mark less than a friend, but when its converted, they end up having 5 more than you.

Same here with out standardized testing I believe. There is no definite A or whatever, but out of 800 points (SAT at least). Depending on how wellstudents do it could be rreally easy to get an 800 or extremely tough. For example, I missed 3 questions on the Math section (out of 60ish?), and was marked down to a 710. So each question was worth 30 points, that I missed. If I missed the same 3 on the test I most recently took I would have got a 740…
