Dumb Question

So I was gonna ask at the “scene of the crime,” but the original thread just got locked on me and I didn’t wanna be obnoxious and email anyone directly.

What does it mean to “necro a thread?” I’m not exactly new to discussion forums, but I haven’t tripped over the term ever before.

Context, CouragetheTiger had posted a really long time ago (back before I started actually checking this forum regularly) about being willing to make Skins. Seeing as no one had responded and the topic was still open, I thought it would be acceptable to ask if the offer still applied. Instead I got shot down, reprimanded for “necro” and locked out of what I thought was a legit question.

Not mad or anything, just confused. A little help with the “local lingo?”

Thanks all.

To necro a thread means to comment on an old thread or convo that ended long ago basically.

Generally, if the last post in a thread was over a month ago (roughly, depends on context), resurrecting the topic by posting in it is considered forum necromancy, which is generally frowned upon.

Aah, well darn. Curse ye sillie local customs I’ve yet to learn.

Any other local customs I should know about before I venture out into the world again?

Sorry, my bad! Didn’t realize! But, yeah

 Amphi

As everyone else pointed out, pretty much this.

Uh,
The only other big forum rule people are stingy about is double+ posting. If you have to say something else immediately after you’ve already posted, just modify your previous post.
The only acceptable time for a double post is to “bump” a thread that has not been responded to in several days, to prevent its death.

Also this is not a local thing, it applies to almost all of the civilized spaces on the interwebs.
