Change

I was thinking yesterday, about my time on PCB and minecraft. I’ve been on this server for over a year now, seeing the community grow and change, from classic, to alpha, to 1.7 beta, and now.

I think we may have a similar thread to this already, but I am interested to know people’s early minecraft and PCB experiences.

These are mine anyway

I started playing minecraft after downloading torrents for indev, not having a clue what it was about, or what the latest version was at the time etc. I then realised it was in infdev, after getting annoyed that I couldn’t make a door for my home built into a mountain in the corner of my grassy world cube.

Anyone else remember the world generation options? Where you could choose whether to be walled in or not, if it was a floating island, or a hell and lava dimension xD

I suddenly realised that the wom client was for classic, and multiplayer after being disappointed I couldn’t fly in indev and infdev. I found the server list and one caught my eye ‘Project City Build [24-7]’ I joined, walked around guestcity for a while in awe of some of the awesome stuff, then started work recreating a pub that I had just finished building in a coastal resort in infdev xD

Fatso was the first person I spoke to, as he just appeared and made the walls for me with /z. He was only builder at the time xD I worked my way through the ranks to Op, thanks to and hardly ever saw Andy online.

Then there came the problem with classic, and Andy deciding not to host it any more. But as me and fatso didn’t have alpha at the time, we took it on, (well, fatso mostly xD).

During this time many of the Op’s we know now joined. Ouhai was quite the noob at one point, but made a pretty cool underwater base thingy at one point, and a library I believe? Vaio too, but I can’t remember any of her builds… sorry. :stuck_out_tongue:

Then PCB Alpha was announced! And everyone gradually disappeared from classic… :frowning:

After re-contacting a friend that I knew through the school ‘Rock Club’, and seeing he liked minecraft from his facebook picture with a creeper photoshopped in behind him, he sent me a gift code

1.7 beta was when I appeared on beta PCB, once again starting with a pub in ‘Hilltop Avenue’

They are the main memorable points for me, until I noticed when browsing the forums on holiday in America that the writing under my name on a post I made said Senior Op. :o I wasn’t sure if this was a forum glitch at first, but after making a post in the admin section of the forums asking if I should be able to view it, I was told I was SOp

And that’s about it from me I think. I can already tell many people will see this and think… Wall of text… fuck that… O_o

Anyway. NEXT STORY! GO GO GO!

THEANGRYAPPLES  I know what you mean about getting tired of it though… I just start on a few big projects and they keep me going.

The way i came across minecraft was playing alpha 1.0 at my cousins, then i waited until 1.2 and bought it after 3 weeks of intense research. I the played on the 'Mine colony' server, it was my first online experience and let me tell you it was fun. Until a crazy griefer OP appeared... and blew the server to shreds. It never came back up after that TNT explosion :(

Then I joined a server called 'MineRP' this is where i found my first ever diamonds, i had a blast, even got my cousins to play on it and we made an epic skywalk network between houses. This is also where i got my first experience of staff, the host was running Hmod at the time and couldn't configure ranks well, so he made "VIP" into "Mod" and bang, my friend and I were mods! the server soon went down due to lack of players and an extreme DDOS attack. it was never back up again.

Next I found a server called 'The Friendly Server' hosted in Sweden by a guy called Jesper. i joined to find out, it really was friendly! After a few days of playing i met this guy called 'Hard24get' and we started to build together, we became friends. The he told me of this server called 'Project city build' that had come back up so i went to go check it out. I played on it occasionally as i had become mod on 'The friendly' just shortly before.

The friendly went down and was not heard from for a while, so i visited hard's server hoping for a new community to join. I was greeted very warmly by one 'Italianchild' and we became good friends! after 1 1/3 months i got trusted and was very pleased with myself, but around that same time, the friendly came back up! so i rushed over there to help keep it up, this was around 1.5, sadly the server plunged back down into downtime.

Around 1.6 i made a mod application which was shot down, but believing people just didn't know me well enough i became more active on the forums and in game. in 1.7 I made another, which was accepted. and in 1.1 i became an OP. and now The friendly is back up so i have 2 communities of great friends to play with. :)

That is my story of minecraft Multilayer.

God, been so long since the ignorance of classic when i was such a noob.

Well, i first found out about minecraft on 4chan, many people posting about how awesome/ lame it was, so i thought i would check it out myself.

First 4 servers i joined were all grief Paradise, but i didn’t know any better, spent some time randomly looking around at the world filled with half destroyed buildings, massive 1x1 pillars into the sky and people who shouted abuse. It got boring fast, really fast.

I started looking through the server list, mass amount of servers all named random things, some not, i did a ctrl+f search for a ‘city’ and boom, Project City Build.

I joined it, and was thrown into what looked like a lobby of a office building, with door ways made out of water that wasn’t flowing anywere, there were no holes or pillars, i couldn’t build anywere, i thought the server was locked to outsiders, i blindly wondered through the largest portal to what looked like a road outside.

The game started loading, what was going on? has the game cras… no, I’m in a small room, its green and yellow, but light is on the outside. running towards it i saw a brief glimpse of a city, truly huge, skyscrapers towering everywere, all in perfect condition. Then i fell.

Landed on a road, looked up, the green room was a large creeper, i had heard things about it, i stared at it but it didn’t move, thank god. Slowly looking around the world, pc chugging from the sheer size of it, i set of exploring wanting to build one of these beasts.

I couldn’t find anywhere, but people were online, i asked ‘where can i build?’. A reply came from someone called Hard24Get, (I later forgot his name XD). He told me to guest city or flatgrass to build, but i could build in his map if i wanted, so i agreed and was rapidly shifted to a large open area within blackish walls that couldn’t be broken. He told me to build, i co-operated and built, I build a obsidian heart filled with lava, surrounded by a glass stadium.

I was finished, blood, sweat and tears layed into the ground. A semi naked person arrived along with hard, they started to discuss for a while, my name changed to another colour with words of congratulations from hard and the person called Clitorise. I was promoted. With builder rights i went to guestcity, and built, i met a few people, work the ropes, liam and others. And built my first skyscraper, it. was. awesome. (at the time XD)

So started my Career on PCB of building skyscrapers, started of simple, square wooden towers, simple windows. Worked my way up to iron rounded skyscrapers, then funny shaped creative skyscrapers such as a Tea-cup skyscraper. Slowly my name changed to dark grey, Advanced-builder. Awesome!

Paired with worktheropes and another we all set to work on adding to Bigcity, one skyscraper to rule them all.
It was a constant battle, changing it, editing it, adding floors, a lobby, active blocks to light it up, even a bot to greet all who enter. Then i applied for op.

From there, things happend, people came and left, the server was down more often, people were getting angry, buildings were not being made, Classic as we used to know it died.

Out of its ashes, The beta server was born. a infinite world with animals, zombies, trees, caves and oceans, big ones. I did not have beta, I couldn’t join, so me and Liam took over classic, and really, the rest is well known.

Just my two cents there

I only found out about minecraft threw my game design class. When i first saw it i thought it was the lamest game i had ever seen. Then a few days later i decided to try it out. I soon became addicted. My first dirt house in the sky was epic. Even though i didn’t know how to sneak and not fall to my death. ::slight_smile: :stuck_out_tongue:
My first night was a disater when i would see a dark figure in the distance and then get shot by something. I qucikly ran to the water and died. Every time it got night i would start a new map because i had no idea how to turn off the difficulty. XD
I had no idea how to even make torches. Much less how to craft anything. So when i fell into my first cave it was hard for me to get out of the cave. I would go threw the cave and break the blocks above me to let sunlight in.
I believe my best creations on my first world where out of dirt because i had no idea how to pick up the stone blocks i would break my hands on. When i finally found out how to craft a pickaxe and make torches, i felt like a total newb. XD 8)

wait you came to beta in 1.7 ???
i swear to god i saw you before that :stuck_out_tongue:

Before I got beta I flicked around on creative and derpherped a lot
then i convinced mom to help me get BETA
I hanged around two servers, that now, one i have no idea what the IP is, and the other is shut down due to funding (something i hope we never have to witness)

anywho after about a month of them i found an Xchan thread saying “HAY GAIZ LES GREEF DIS SURVUR!!11!!!1”

so i came 1.2
and stuff
and built some stuff
and it was fun
and i decided not to grief
because this server fucking rocks
and look at me now bitches im an OP!

Well, my story of PCB would start around maybe December of ‘10 i think, and i was fairly new, first server and all, so I chose to stick around. I remember seeing alot of non-Beta stragglers, like, for awhile Zesty, Liam, and Fatso. I got that Adv. Builder rank, was happy for awhile with plain ol’ classic. Then, I think it was like May-June-ish, when I got Beta, (Early Birthday gift) and didn’t even THINK of single player! I immediately went here, got the IP, and went on 1.7 (or 1.8-ish)‘s survival, and I knew I was gonna be a part of this community for a LOOOONG time.
I was right. I honestly haven’t been on any other official servers yet, besides this one! Keep this community goin’ strong, man!

Not 1.7 idk xD

well i first heard about minecraft through Keybladekid. him and i know each other in real life and are both going to the same school for computer networking. we were not paying attention in class one day and he pulled his laptop out and started playing this ‘shitty block game’. he was of course addicted but i wasn’t convinced. so instead of buying it, i torrented the damn thing. i was instantly hooked. he helped me survive my first night, and after about 3 months and several updates (1.4-1.6 i believe) i broke down and bought it. i started looking for a new experience for minecraft and tried Mulitplayer. one was a pvp which i didin’t mine except some douche kept stalking me and the other players and smiting us down before we could even make it outta the spawn… and the other servers i went on were all blown to hell and not being used at all, or the spawn was covered in lava… when i went on the repective servers i found out it was because of a group called AVO…
so needless to say i gave up on Multicraft and started looking for a Pokemon MMO where i met CherryRed who told me about this server. i started, made a ton of friends REALLY fast and i have no intentions on leaving anytime soon. i believe Hard and Sacred were the ones who gave me starter stuff in Swamphead and i was promoted to member my first night on. Mythbeast helped me with keeping mobs outta my house with torches and i slowly started building the lava/waterfall in swamphead as well as a cobble maker and the roads on the backside of the town. i was just recently promoted to Trusted and i teared up when i found out a few days ago to finally have a multiplayer place i can call home on Minecraft.

I’ll post mine when I’m not half asleep.

Me too.

Fatso, that was an epic retelling. I remember when I first ran into a skeleton. I had seen a vid on youtube so I knew it was possible to punch em to death, but then another showed up and they both butchered me. I played peaceful for quite a long time after that.

I really miss having a bot with me. When I was playing in the Secret World server, I met two people who could fly and command bots to build for em. This amazed me of course. I thought they were admins and they went along with the ruse. There was never any staff there.

Eventually, they trusted me with the knowledge of how to get my own bot and flying mods. They also passed to me the base we had been using and protecting from so many griefings.

I wrote the full story elsewhere, but that part is new. When The Secret World went down for good, I found Flatgrass (the original name for PCB). There were lots of flatgrasses, but I happened to join the one with Andy and Special in it. I think the server had just started.

OK, I think i posted this elsewhere but I have more to add to it now :stuck_out_tongue:

In November 2010 I discovered minecraft. A friend showed it to me just after my birthday, and it looked pretty epic. However, the only version I knew of was the paid version.

Some time in December i went to minecraft.net and saw a ‘play now’ section. Not wanting to be on my own, I hit multiplayer and a huge list showed up. I randomly went through servers for a few days and they all had major griefing problems.

Eventually I stumbled across one called ‘Project City Build [24/7]’. A city build? that sounded fun! I joined and found a guy called liam599 who showed me where I could build. I built a book shop in Guest City and loved the experience.

I returned the next day (I think) and a guy called fatso12321 was online. He had a fancy coloured name and was moaning about needing to fix a road, so I helped him, and he ranked me up for it. I felt part of something then.

On classic I met Ital (And banned him for griefing :stuck_out_tongue: ), vaio, lemon (Or TheAngryApples as he was then) as well as Jet, Hard, JoeAbunga, and I think at one point clit.

Every day I returned and eventually bettered myself to an advbuilder at around the same time as liam got OP.
Then the server was down more and more often. I was worried I would lose the community. I had signed up to the forums by then and saw that andy hadn’t been on for a while. I thought it would all be over.

Then I noticed it was back, but fatso was hosting it. I asked him if I could become OP to help out with setting up and he agreed. Then I became what I am today. The beta server came so I begged my mum to buy me the full game. She did and I joined the beta server.

Then fatso and liam decided to make me the 3rd admin of the classic server. (THANK YOU GUIZE, LUV YA!) I applied for OP on SMP and was surprised to find that I was accepted almost instantly. I believe it was Kyle who said ‘well well finally stepping up. I was wondering if you wanted the positon’. And I was OP on Beta, and admin on classic. I thought that would be it, I was happy there anyway.

I met many people like sip, gggeeee, Keat, zak, and many many others.

When liam and hard were promoted to SOP I congratulated them. We were thinking of going public by then so I assumed more positions would be opened.

I was right. I thought I might as well apply, the worst that can happen is it gets denied. But I was accepted and it also led to sip’s promotion.

And that is my story.

Why did they always target the roads… =’[

WHATS A SYSTEM32?

K, looked it up, System32 is needed for windows to run properly. If deleted at BEST it will be extremely laggy and unable to run most things. At worst it completely stops windows from booting when you turn on your PC. Basically, dont do it.

i almost deleted that before i saw the trollface

Lol lemon. Remind me to edit this post and tell my story.

hey sip im reminding you now to post and tell your story =p
