Oh wow yeah forgot about my Alex rider books sat on my bookshelf. Gonna go dig 'em out they are great! And it has apperently finished now [details=“Spoiler”]when he leave to america with Sabina [/details] but there are rumours he is making another one.
Percy Jackson is also a good series which hasn’t ended yet! On edge waiting for the next one
Firstly, anything written by Tolkien. If you’ve read the Trilogy and the Hobbit, I recommend the Silmarillion. It goes through how the world was made, the Elves and their origins as well as Men. It takes you from the very beginning (even before the beginning too :P) up until the end of the Third Age.
If you’re into Science Fiction, I’d recommend Roadside Picnic. It’s the book that inspired the “Stalker” movie and the games. Imagine a group of people going out for a picnic; they then leave, also leaving their litter behind. While they’re gone, the local wildlife, bugs and whatnot, see it and are utterly astounded by it. Well, that’s basically Roadside Picnic, except the people are Aliens and we’re the bugs in the analogy. I’m probably not doing the book any justice with the explanation, but sure fuck it.
For anybody into History, I just finished reading a book called “HHhH” (This is the actually title of the book, but it stands for “Himmlers hirn heißt Heydrich”). It’s about Operation Anthropoid, a mission to assassinate Reinhard Heydrich, the head of the Gestapo. It’s not so much a story, but more of an account of the events, but trust me, it’s still very good.
Book 3 is a good one. Book 1 really just establishes things, so I’d saycthat if there would be one book to read ahead of without ruining the main plot, it’s book one (although its still an amazing read, so it could be a prequel if you did read ahead). I read mine all in order. And yeah, I suppose you may not get it if you don’t read book 1 first, so I recomend STILL getting book 1 first.
I would pretty much say that Book1 is essential. Something that happens in that book is absolutely key later on, and you’d probably end up wondering “Why dafuq are 3 teenagers running around in the past?!”.
You can download the Amazon Kindle app for Mac/PC and buy kindle books to read on it, so that might get round the issue of not being able to find the first book.
I used to love Garth Nix’s Keys to the Kingdom trilogy. It’s probably aimed at teenagers really, but still a great read if you can keep up with them.
It’s the series with Mister Monday, Grim Tuesday etc.
More recently I enjoy crime thrillers, especially the Women’s Murder Club series by James Patterson. The beauty of this series is that you can pick up any of the 13 books and read them as independent novels, or read them as a series. (I started with the 9th book, not realising it was a series. I’ve just started reading them from no. 1)
honestly, and im not trying to be funny here, but Mein Kapmf is a really interesting book in my opinion. It shows the political ideology and future plans for Germany through the mind of Hitler, and there are actually some good points and ideas in it but also some not so good. But i think its a good read, especially for someone whose really into history.
Slaughterhouse Five is interesting but I don’t know if its a sort of book that I’d read for enjoyment. Idk. It was required in school, and it was interesting, but its not like, the first book I’d go recommending to people.
Hey, want to hear about Tralfamadorians?
We had to read Of Mice and Men, which wouldn’t have been too bad, as it’s a good book, but the over-analysis that they make you do just killed it for me.
We did Of Mice and Men as our book, then also An Inspector Calls as the play. Both are alright, but over analysis and the amount of time spent on it fucking sucked. I now hate both, especially An Inspector Calls.
Oh hey im reading of mice and men in english too.
For our analysis we have to write essays, but we just got to play cards to simulate an accurate representation of what George would do in his spare time. Yeah, I quite enjoy doing it. Mainly cause no essays. Screw you essays.
