Ban Appeal suggestion

Recently there have been a couple of ban appeals where people put that they don’t know the reason for their ban, or who banned them. I think we should integrate the Ban Appeals page with the Ban list.

Here’s how it would work:

[ul][li]First page: User enters their username and clicks “Next”[/li]
[li]Second page: User is shown their banner and reason for ban, or redirected back to the first page if the username cannot be found. The user can enter their reason to be unbanned[/li]
[li]Ban is submitted[/li][/ul]

Possible suggestion: The fact that they have submitted an appeal is recorded in a cookie, and when a user visits the homepage it shows if any replies have been posted and reminding them that they may need to respond.

I mean, I don’t really see an issue with our current system in which we need to change. Some people just don’t think they do anything wrong, therefore they say “I don’t know what I did”. I think that changing isn’t necessary. Good Luck!

I mean, a lot of people say they don’t know why they were banned. They can easily check, but most people don’t know of the existence of the Ban List.

It would speed the process up because:

[ul][li]If it was a grief, it’s pretty difficult to claim you didn’t do it.[/li]
[li]A lot of people ask what they did to get banned, because they haven’t seen the reason.[/li]
[li]It would get rid of threads where people don’t know what to put in the reason for unbanning box, because they don’t know what they did.[/li][/ul]

I completely agree that players should have to login. Then they will be able to communicate as well, instead of leaving the appeal.

Also, along those lines: You can post a reply to you appeal without registering for the forums. Some people don’t have an account, therefore they cannot reply.

I was planning to have appeals automatically show their ban list record but I haven’t gotten around to it yet.

At the moment the form already records your ban appeal and checks it against the forums. If the thread is not locked (and therefore still unresolved) it will automatically redirect you to your thread if you try to go to the ban appeal form again. It also says in a big red box above the form: Please monitor your appeal as you may be required to reply or give evidence.. If they can’t even be bothered to read that then well… what else can we do.

You used to have to login to be able to post a ban appeal but that caused all sorts of problems in the past, so now even guests can send in an appeal provided that their username is correct.

I agree. I find it annoying when people don’t know who banned them or why.

I think this should be extended to allow guests to also reply without signing up, as most people aren’t willing to make an account for the sheer purpose of claiming they didn’t do something in a game.

If they can’t be bothered with us, why should we be bothered with them?

If a player hasnt signed up for the site, and I am the one who banned them, I just say no, and that they need to create an account.

I feel it is their responsibility to remember why they where banned. It tells them when they are kicked from the server…

The ban appeal system already works like the suggested method… so I suppose this goes into the denied section since nothing is technically being implemented?
