if i may i would like to put my two cents in… this guy DID lie about everything. he claimed to be from Sweeden, and to work with Notch and Jeb with Mojang. im fairly sure he lied about being there to “revue” (review) the server.
idk about anyone else here but i was always raised that stealing and lying were clumped together in the same boat. i personally know that i wouldn’t feel exactly safe with someone like that on our server. i mean for all we know he was asking for creative mode and op powers to grief jus like any other AVO follower. i’ve been on other servers where the OPs and Admins were dumb as hell and ended up letting ppl like this do stuff and the next thing you know the spawn point is covered in lava or blown to hell.
so as i have said i am not an OP. BUT when i see someone who does all this i would have done the same as Hard in order to protect the rest of us.
I agree that lying is worthy of temp-banning, and this guy in particular may deserve worse (as in a longer ban), but I cannot see how his actions justifies a permanent ban. We can make someone chill out with temp-bans. If he continued his claims, then a full ban is in order.
NO one would be dumb enough to promote someone in this manner. If we did do some kind of interview, we would require them to join our forums and make an official request to do so. That way, we could verify who they are first. Anyone who is serious about tours and the like would understand our precautions.
I disabled the tempban command in my plugin, there are bits of code for it but I would have to write major parts again for that to work. Also I dont really find this a bannable offense, especially since I dont think that rule was ever voted on in the first place. I am sure it was not in the original set of rules.
First time reading this through I though you all meant banned from making OP applications… which I thought was fair enough.
I’m frankly quite surprised the vote is even close. The question was simply do we ban people for just ASKING for OP. We might argue the merits of banning this particular player, but I was more concerned by the concept of people being banned for asking a question.
Everyone deserves fair warning before a ban. The only exceptions I am aware of is if they clearly grief, hack/cheat, or do some form of clear harm.
if the player doesn’t know any better, then no. but if the player has malicious intent like this one, then yes.
I still say no either way. For me it feels like just another reason to give someone a ban, if they start spamming chat with that, give them a warning and a kick. If they continue then ban, if they really care they will appeal.
Ok guys, dont get mad at me, i know djbry. I told him about this tactic and that sometimes it gets you admin (I was joking, I havent tried it) so you can grief a server madly. Sorry about this, but he should be banned because he had bad intentions
Ok, if we have confirmation from another source that he was trying to grief, then a ban is appropriate. I just don’t want to hear that we ban people for simply asking a question, and not actually doing anything wrong.
