Activity?

Has the server still been fairly active or has it died down?

He’s talking about FTB guys…

I think Sip is talking about FTB, in which case I never see much people on it. Like max 5-4.

Survival and creative is going really well, more and more people are joining.

19 october 2010 - 19 october 2011: 1005 players joined
19 october 2011 - 19 october 2012: 820 players joined
19 october 2012 - 19 october 2013: 2275 players joined (But mainly towards the end of the year)
19 october 2013 - today: 1000 players joined so we can expect a bit more than 3000 this year.

The reason why you think the server might be dying is that its mainly active during eastern time evenings.
We need to get it running in Europe more (So we need more European staff)

But I think we’re doing pretty well. Like the donation bar! We need $50 a month for the server to maintain itself and as you can see we have more than 200 dollars for less than four months. That’s a first!

I’m trying to gauge interest on the FTB server or moving it to something like pvp, or another type of server that may be more accessible?

Well I’ve already brought up the idea, and people seemed to be really interested:

If we had a PVP map, it would definitely be more popular than FTB.

I feel like we’ve had this conversation before…a lot.

Honestly I’d almost like a random poll put up to see how many people even know the FTB server exists. That way at least we know it from lack of interest and not just people being ignorant of thee option.

Or on the other hand, Screw Gregtech, because this joke will never die.

Just realized this was in the FTB section. Derp.

A lot of the people who posted here so far are not those who care about or have been to FTB. I certainly hope FTB’s activity has not died down, but I know I have not had as much time to play on it lately. I did take a venture into another game for about a week (South Park).

I would love to invite more players now that the server has shown to be more stable. We never made a public announcement about FTB being officially open. So we could easily gain more players.

One thing I worry about with taking polls for what the people want is that the people don’t know what they want. We have HAD hardcore server attempts that people voted on. That server died due to nobody playing on it. Pixelmon died due to the main person setting it up kinda giving up on it.

FTB has at least had consistent players even if they are mostly the same people.

i will get back to the ftb server =)

Well I think the other big problem is that it requires some time to get into, and even install the client properly, which is a limiting factor.

Indeed, there is the pretty big barrier of setting up to play ftb, Whilst most (if not all of us regulars) find updating it easy, new players have extreme difficulty with it - To the point of giving up on it.

As with kyle my time with ftb has been limited lately for a few reasons. Recent rekindling of a garys mod love affair, recent job position I have been accepted for ect.

I love the idea of having the ftb server here and now to play of with other people. Its a shame that the limiting factor of setting up and the lack of players on it make for an empty server most nights.

I could host it on my laptop again? Though the performance would be diminished quite a bit

Id get on it but my laptop cant handle FTB

The laptop idea could work, if the fixes we are using on the current server are done. We have never had performance issues, but technical issues. SOMETHING in our settings was causing massive lag over a short time such as a memory leak. The server was unplayable after about an hour.

Moving the server to linux may have been what fixed that. Or it could have been the lowering of the server’s RAM settings. I don’t know (It went from 2 to 1.5 gigs).

The barrier for setting it up has been lowered a lot thanks to me simply uploading my mods and settings folders. All players need to do is erase the default ones the launcher makes, and put mine in. The rest of the barrier is if their computers can play it.

I can run Ubuntu on my laptop and just port everything over, and give ssh, ftp, and even vnc

ssh? whats that? xD

A type of console access.

I would play the FTB server but I was having a lot of trouble trying to get it to work so I just gave up

Sip, I could run the FTB, Ive got extra space on my computer.

Okay, tomorrow morning I’ll zip the files and give you the link to download them from the server

That good?

That will be really awesome if you could actually do that
