Here’s what I propose: When we go public, one of the things that could help us in seeing more traffic are websites on which people vote for the server they like. (mcserverlist, a lot of others). I think we should use that to our advantage. But most people need a little motivation to go and vote on a webiste. So as an incentive, we should offer our players a reward for voting - just like many other popular servers out there do.
There’s a few options as far as rewards go:
XP - not the best one. For people who don’t care about it, it won’t give them an incentive to do it. For people who do care for it - well, it’s going to be an insignificant amount compared to one use of their xp farms.
Money - Better than XP, as you can actually get things with it - diamonds, blocks, help with building, whatever. Something like a reward of $100 sounds reasonable.
Actual items - This, to me, sounds the most likely. Let’s face it - who wouldn’t want a few free diamonds? If we have several places where you can vote, then 1 diamond each.
But each reward is still going to be favored more by some people and less by others. That’s why I think we should give players a choice. There are plugins for giving people items/money/xp, however, I’m not sure about the option of choosing.
Anyway, respond to as what your thoughts on this are: specific items, how much, xp, money, how much?

I think this should easily between money and items, possibly the combination of both.
I personally think this should be for money, since money stimulates the economy of the game. Players will be encouraged to buy things from each other. Now that I think of this, maybe a staff tax, where every dollar spent a few cents go to staff. Also I was thinking that we could put up enchant shops, so players could spend for the exact enchants they want; this wouldn’t be for cheap though, it could cost fairly large sums.
I think bringing tons of diamonds into the economy would start to loose their value immediately not making them a commodity anymore. Anyone could easily stash diamonds then.

Well, it wouldn’t be that easy. To get a stack of diamonds would require one month’s worth of clicking… Those websites have security measures to prevent people from cheating the system. If we have more than one voting site, than one could offer a diamond+whatever, while another could give you a spawn egg, etc.
I can’t say that I like the idea.
Reason 1 - I don’t think the project is feasible. The difficulty in setting it up, and the non-existence of a plugin to do this will make it difficult.
Reason 2 - I find it’s in bad taste when sites basically bribe people for votes. Heck, some places make the vote mandatory.
Reason 3 - Do we even want to be popular? Yes, we want some advertising, but too many people will hurt PCB.
Based on how many servers have implemented this, it makes me want to believe it’s out there. The non-existent plugin isn’t necessarily required.
Well, it all depends on how lazy you are, I guess.
