As expected web crusaders of 4chan were behind the attack on the minecraft servers for the last few days.
What bothers me is the fuzzy logic behind the attack that was carried out; they’re claiming that the attacks are in order to protest their disgust for the lack of updates that the game has, but taking down their servers will only stall the updates with the developers forced to protect the servers from such attacks in the future.
It reminds me too well of when Australian websites were attacked by these botnetters from 4chan in ‘protest’ of internet censorship which ultimately gave the government further justification to push censorship.
As other commentators have noted, these kinds of attacks tend to do the public no good, and work against the group whom carry them out. They’re being rather short sighted with this kind of attack.
In terms of what has happened to our server, it seems their attacks have broken everything. Portals, administrative powers, etc don’t work at all anymore.
