Over Here in Minnesota there has been barely any snow until Christmas day when it snowed like 2in. Other than that nothing. I just want some more so I can go snowmobiling!!!
All I get is small frost. Then finally, when it’s like -1 degrees, the weather forecast says it’ll snow!
waits outside
rains
:’(
Story time.
So, you want snow? I got some snow just before I went on holiday skiing, that was nice, although there was the slight worry about being snowed in and not getting to the airport. Fortunately, that didn’t happen, we got up at 4am and made it to the airport just fine!
But then, once there check in took waaaaaaaaaaaay longer than it should have. Hours. This was the first thing that went wrong. From this point, things continued to spiral out of control into the single worst travelling experience I have ever had.
The flight was delayed by the plane being late getting in, then delayed further as once we got on, the pilot told us he wasn’t qualified to take us to the planned airport due to weather and terrain (airport is in a bowl, mountains and stuff. Need special training to land there.) so we went to a different one.
This meant the coaches to take us to the ski resort weren’t there so we used emergency ones from another company instead. Sudden VERY heavy snowfall caused ridiculous traffic jams (BBC News said 15,000 cars.) which meant 13 hours on a coach with no food apart from a single service station stop which was filled with multiple coach loads of people. It literally looked like the pictures you see on the news of people panic buying due to hurricanes etc.
After passing many abandoned cars in the middle of the motorway, we reached a town at something like 6am. At this point the coach driver had done way over his allowed hours so couldn’t take us further up the mountain path. We had to sleep on the coach and go to some gymnasium which has been turned into a shelter the following morning, where we hear stories from other people that had been literally abandoned by their coach drivers.
None of the travel company reps knew what was going on in regards to road closures and the French police are shit so they did fuck all either. Eventually our coach driver told us he has been instructed by his boss to return with us to the airport, but he took us to a train station instead (top lad). After cramming onto the train, and a funicular railway we eventually get to the resort after 36 hours.
A day of skiing lost, but we made it…
Fortunately this meant the skiing conditions were fucking brilliant for the majority of the holiday, some of the lower slopes were a bit slushy and icy by the end, not too bad though.
Just a regular weekend in wales then
The thing is, it was the fucking French Alps. You’d think they’d expect some snow there…
I mean sure, it was a large amount very suddenly, but surely there should be backup plans for this shit?!
Ah well. It was a good week apart from that.
